CUHK-Shenzhen Holds Inauguration Ceremony 2022
The Inauguration Ceremony 2022 of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held on the morning of 3 September, gathering over 3,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students around the world. In response to the COVID-19 control requirements, the ceremony was held in combination of online and in-person participation, including a physical main venue for university officers, professors, and undergraduate students 2022, a number of classroom venues that provide live broadcast for postgraduate students, as well as virtual live-streaming access for parents and friends from all walks of life.

The 2022 cohort contains around 100 international students from a total of 15 countries, including Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Syria, Turkey, Norway, Finland, Canada, New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Some of them have arrived on campus after completing the required quarantine process.

President Yangsheng Xu: Find Your True Self at University and Get a Firm Footing in Life
Professor Yangsheng Xu, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, delivered an uplifting address at the Inauguration Ceremony. He said: “I want you to bear in mind that when you struggle and stumble, as we all do every now and then, you are not alone. CUHK-Shenzhen is proud to be home to the most approachable faculty and most friendly staff who are ready to walk you through each difficult situation so long as you reach out for them. Your peers, among whom you are sitting today, will in the years to come inspire you and empower you only if you allow them to enter your life and make an impact. No matter what challenge you are faced with, never forget to stay open for opportunities, to stay open for help, and to stay open for love and friendship.”

Mathematician Shing-Tung Yau: Make Contribution to Science in China and the World
Professor Shing-Tung Yau, prominent mathematician and the first Chinese recipient of the Fields Medal, and an alumnus of CUHK, spoke to the students about his university experience and emphasized the importance of basic science. He also encouraged the students to do their part in the advancement of science in China and around the world, stating.
“China is now home to many more science- and tech-savvy talent than in the past. Those from all around China, including Hong Kong, are making the trip to Shenzhen because they know it will make a difference, especially due to Shenzhen's prominence in China's technological advancement. I do believe that the establishment of CUHK-Shenzhen is highly significant, and will drive the advancement of science and technology in the locality."

Prof. Rocky Sung-chi Tuan: Upholding the University's Motto and Contributing to Society and Nation
As CUHK-Shenzhen enters its ninth year of development, CUHK will soon celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. In his speech, Professor Tuan, President of CUHK and Chair of the CUHK-Shenzhen Governing Board remarked, "The prospects afforded by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will allow CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen to collaborate even more closely and innovatively. I look forward to seeing you all on campus in the future, and I hope that the students and faculty of the two campuses will, in terms of academics, innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, and arts, witness deeper cooperation and exchanges. May you forge ahead in the CUHK-Shenzhen family with fantastic and unforgettable experiences. I also hope you will apply what you've learnt and make a meaningful contribution to society and the nation."

Jianhuang Wen is a new student of the Master of Accounting program, Harmonia College. At the same time, he just graduated from CUHK-Shenzhen as a bachelor's student majoring in accounting this year. As both a first-year and former student, he encouraged peers to build connections with others out of truistic motives, to battle uncertainties and challenges via communication and teamwork, and to enjoy their university experience.
Yining Mao, the undergraduate representative from the School of Data Science and Muse College, shared her three magical encounters with CUHK-Shenzhen during her speech. She said, "University is such an important period of our life, in which our concepts towards life, dream and the world are mostly shaped. Therefore, it is of great importance to be given more opportunities to see things from various angles. Obviously, CUHK-Shenzhen will give us these chances."
